Our summer clerkship program provides law students with paid work experience and a fantastic opportunity to learn first-hand what life is like as a lawyer in our business.
Summer clerks work directly with senior lawyers who help develop their legal and commercial expertise. Clerks are exposed to real client instructions across a variety of practice areas, they receive hands-on training and useful feedback.
Clerks are involved in drafting documents, undertaking legal research, attending client meetings, and attending court. They are fully immersed into the firm culture and are included in staff meetings, training sessions and any social functions that take place during the clerkship period.
At the end of the program, we arrange an end of clerkship review meeting, where feedback is provided from both sides. Clerks are actively encouraged to provide suggestions on the program too – we are not afraid to listen.

DMAW Lawyers is a dedicated and dynamic team of corporate and commercial professionals committed to delivering outstanding legal services to South Australia’s best businesses. In terms of practice areas, DMAW Lawyers specialise in Transactions, Corporate and Disputes.
We are currently seeking applications from penultimate and final year law students for our upcoming clerkship programme that will be offered during the summer holiday break, commencing prior to Christmas and finishing in February. These six-week paid clerkships will involve a range of genuine work and activity on real client instructions. Clerks are supervised by Senior Associates and Associates and are involved in drafting documents, undertaking research, attending client meetings and attending court (where possible). Clerks also have the opportunity to attend our professional continuing legal education programme and join in with the firm’s social and charity activities during their time with us.
You will be immersed in the day-to-day activities of a busy firm and will get to experience the friendly and focused environment firsthand, whilst being guided and mentored by experienced practitioners.
We are keen to speak with candidates who have a genuine interest in business, strong initiative and great problem solving skills. You will be engaging, pro-active and eager to learn and develop. The right attitude is essential, as is a positive and enthusiastic approach.
If you have an interest corporate and commercial law, this is an excellent opportunity to gain some hands-on experience in private practice over the University break.
