Patrick is a principal in the firm’s disputes team.

Patrick is an experienced commercial dispute resolution lawyer with a broad ranging practice. He has extensive skills in all forms of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, including litigation, expert determination, and arbitration.

Patrick represents a number of clients in the building, construction, and project industry. In addition to his dispute resolution practice, he performs front-end advisory work for the firm’s commercial construction clients, involving contract drafting, negotiation, risk advice and management, and project life cycle management.

Patrick regularly acts as solicitor and counsel in the various State and Federal Courts and Tribunals. He is committed to guiding clients through complex legal processes with a strategic and commercially pragmatic approach.

Patrick was recognised in Doyle's Guide as a Leading Construction & Infrastructure Lawyer in South Australia for 2025, 2024 and 2023, after being recognised as a rising star in 2022.

Some of Patrick’s key matters include:

  • acting for a large civil construction contractor in relation to a multi-million dollar claim against it in respect of monies paid pursuant to latent site conditions in the Supreme Court of South Australia;
  • acting for a state government department in respect of several major roadworks, highway, and bridge construction projects, including to:
    • prepare and advise on contract and tender documentation;
    • provide advice in relation to the contract management through the life cycle of the projects;
    • prepare a large-scale project management and funding agreement; and
    • resolve disputes through litigious and non-litigious processes.
  • acting in relation to various taxation disputes, including disputes under the Payroll Tax Act 2009 (SA), having successfully run an application for exemption to judgment for a large private school in the Supreme Court of South Australia;
  • providing life cycle project management, risk minimization and dispute resolution advice to a multinational technology company in respect of the construction of a large prison;
  • providing life cycle project management and risk minimization advice to a large civil construction contractor in respect of the design and construction of a mega distribution centre;
  • acting on behalf of a variety of claimants and respondents in relation to security of payment matters, including successfully defending several large multi-million dollar adjudication applications under the Building and Construction Industry Security of Payment Act on behalf of a multinational technology company;
  • successfully running several matters to judgment for commercial fishing clients; and
  • providing advice to clients regarding workplace and employment related issues, and regularly representing them in disputes in the South Australian Employment Tribunal and the Federal Courts and Tribunals.

Patrick previously served as Associate to the Honourable Justice Tim Stanley of the Supreme Court of South Australia and was the author of Thomson Reuters’ commentary in relation to the Building and Construction Industry Security of Payment Act 2009 (SA).

Patrick regularly provides training and seminars to clients and the legal industry, in particular in relation to construction industry topics including adjudications under the Security of Payment Act and risk management in commercial contracting.
