International Women's Day 2025 - "March Forward: From Promises to Progress"
This International Women's Month, DMAW Lawyers is proud to align with UN Women in embracing the theme, "March Forward: From Promises to Progress".
This year’s theme calls for decisive action toward achieving gender equality, marking 30 years since the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action in 1985.
It serves as a reminder that progress requires bold steps to create change. It also highlights that, despite advancements, millions of women around the world continue to be denied basic rights, opportunities, and safety.
In support of this year’s theme and with International Women's Day around the corner (March 8), we invited a number of our junior and senior lawyers to share how they would like to see the legal industry 'March Forward'.
What's one way you'd like to see the legal industry 'March Forward'?
I'd like to see the legal industry invest in initiatives to support career development for women, specifically in senior and partnership roles.

By offering an opportunity for women to amplify their voices and to provide legal support for those that often face the greatest barriers to justice.

I would like to see the legal industry organise more group sessions and events for women to discuss issues and share information about their roles and working environments, in confidential and comfortable settings.

I'd like to see the legal industry promote practical strategies to address the systematic barriers that hinder gender equality.

I would like to see a more diverse and equitable representation of women in leadership roles within the legal industry.

I'd like to see women empowered to shape the future of legal practice with fair representation at all levels.

I'd like to see the legal industry 'March Forward' by providing better support for women entering leadership roles.

By more firms committing to the equitable briefing of barristers not just in junior roles but in leading counsel roles too.

In the spirit of International Women's Day, it would be great to see the legal industry continue to grow it's support for those organisations that provide critical services to people who have suffered gender based violence and to allow access to justice for all of those survivors.
