NAIDOC Week 2024
DMAW Lawyers respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Custodians whose ancestral lands on which we work. In support of year's NAIDOC Week theme "Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud", we stand in solidarity as Allies and pay our respects to ancestors and Elders past, present and future, and we acknowledge their ongoing cultural heritage, beliefs and relationship to Country.
This year's theme "Keep The Fire Burning! Blak, Loud & Proud" honours the enduring strength and vitality of First Nations people, communities and culture.
At DMAW Lawyers, we strive to embrace actions that help forge a future where the stories, traditions, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities are cherished and celebrated, enriching the fabric of the nation with the oldest living culture in the world and as such we continue to celebrate NAIDOC Week each year.
This year we celebrated by tuning into an insightful Yarning Circle webinar with Aunty Munya and Carla from Evolve Communities which explored:
- the significance of NAIDOC Week and this year’s theme;
- key principles all Australians can learn from First Nations wisdom and;
- practical actions for Allies to help "keep the fire burning
What is NAIDOC Week?
National NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia in the first week of July each year (Sunday to Sunday), to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth.
